Alexandra Ellis is a highly reputable and respected fitness professional in the NYC area. She is a Certified Personal Trainer to New Yorkers of all ages, Group Fitness Instructor at CityRow, Tier 3+ Personal Trainer at Equinox Flatiron, Team Lead of Kill Cliff Buzz Fitness Team, and ReebokONE Ambassador. Alex graduated from James Madison University in 2011 with a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences, and a concentration in Pre-Professional Health Studies.
Alex grew up in small town Charleston, WV. From a young age, she was vibrant, active, and eager to learn. With a background in figure skating, gymnastics, and over 18 years of study in various styles of dance, movement and fitness have always been part of her daily life. She knew from a young age that she wanted to do great things in this world, and make a positive, lasting impact on other people’s lives.
Growing up, Alex struggled with body image issues. Surrounded by dancers who were rail thin, her curves were not something she then embraced. These issues came to a peak in college, and Alex struggled with a devastating eating disorder on and off for several years. Once she finally realized how much the disordered thinking and behaviors had taken over her life, she worked hard to turn things around. She began to make enormous strides thanks to the encouragement of her friends, coworkers, and the beloved barbell. Lifting heavy gave her a sense of empowerment that she had never felt before. It was love at first lift!
In the fall of 2011, Alex began powerlifting and olympic weightlifting while working with J2FIT (www.j2fit.com). They taught her that lifting heavy and pushing your limits daily not only makes you STRONGER, it also makes you LEANER, in combination with proper nutrition and conditioning. In addition, she joined the Team Dangerous community (www.teamdangeroushq.com), and became involved in the NYC CrossFit world. There is truly no greater feeling than smashing a workout with your friends, and walking away knowing you’re stronger than when you started.
Fast forward to 2015: Alex wanted to challenge herself and step outside her comfort zone, so she signed up for an NPC bikini competition, and competed for the first time on April 4, 2015. She designed her own program and meal plan to fuel her training, prepped for 2 1/2 months, and ended up placing 7th & 8th in her divisions out of over 20+ women. While placing top 10 without hiring a coach felt incredible, the true win was in the renewed confidence she had in herself, her body, and her abilities as a trainer and coach. Strong IS the new sexy.
Alex’s passion for fitness is fueled in part by the challenges she has faced personally, her deeply rooted desire to help others, and her innate desire to MOVE. She aims to share her story and journey, in hopes of motivating and inspiring others to become the absolute best version of themselves.
